A letter to the nations of Europe
Two of the most interlinked continents in the world are Europe and America, and it is easy to see why. They are extremely financially linked, they are culturally similar, seeing most people in the American Continents are the descendants of Europeans, we are relatively close, and, in times of war, we have stood side to side to fight against tyranny, as was shown in World War 2 and the fight against Nazism, and the subsequent Cold War during the struggle against Communism.
However, Europe, once the land of Empire spanning the whole world, the most powerful nations on earth, the land where explorers charted out the corners of the world, has certainly seen better days. Their empires have been all lost, not necessarily to the improvement of either side, their status on the World stage is greatly diminished, their militaries, once some of the best in the world, are garbage, and the finest cities on the continent, like London, Paris, Madrid, Berlin and Rome are being overrun by illegal immigrants, which are seriously beginning to change the local demographics of the country. Europe, once the center of the world, has lost its prestige, a shadow of its former self, compared to its past grandeur.
Recently, because of the Iran war, and the continued opposition of the Europeans to it, we have been trying to teach our “Allies” a lesson, because, as I said before, this is really getting out of hand. We spend all this time trying to protect ya’ll, and we don’t get a single thank you, instead, we get yelled at. On the other hand, we pay for all of Europe’s protection, while the rest of them slack off.
Now, in Germany, since 1945, America has had several military bases, which had around 40,000 troops in Germany until recently. This system initially made since, it was to protect Germany from the Soviets, who were right next door in East Germany. Meanwhile, this was also to help Germany, and by extension, the rest of Western Europe, rebuild, as this was right after the Second World War, and we needed to rebuild our allies countries because that is what true friends do, and we needed them to be ready during the confrontation against the Soviets. But, it wasn’t just the US carrying the team, as all NATO nations, except for Iceland, had massive militaries that were capable of defending themselves. Germany had 500,000 troops, Britain had around 400,000, and at their peak, France had around 2 Million! However, after the Berlin Wall fell, all of our troops in Germany made less since, as there was no threat right next to Berlin, and, meanwhile, the rest of Europe got more relaxed, shrinking their militaries drastically and focused more on building their wealth. Meanwhile, we still have 40,000 troops in Germany, doing nothing, while the rest of Europe shrinks their military to the point of the Polish military being larger than the Bundshwer, the German Army. So, because of this, and along with the Iran war, 5,000 US troops were pulled out. This is a clear signal that the relationship between the US and Europe needs to change.
So, what is the relationship between Europe and America in the first place? Well, basically, America dominates the alliance, which is good, for us, but to a degree that we are just carrying the team. However, the Europeans don’t respect us, and when we go on an international action, we get yelled at. We have defended their freedom for a century, against the Kaiser, Nazism and Communism, and we get no thank you. Europeans have basically no army, and yet they still complain at their protector. A main example of this was when the United States sought to take Greenland, because the Danes couldn’t defend it on their own. However, instead of negotiating with the United States to cede the island, or some joint partnership where we all equally defend Greenland, no, we got yelled at for attacking our allies and some European nations started moving troops to the island. They expect us to defend them, but as I outlined before, they complain at us and generally don’t like America at all.
As I also said before, this absolutely has to change. We can’t keep letting our “Allies” keep getting away with everything, and they need to have some national defense of some sort. Because, despite all the times we argue and I go on about how much Europeans suck and all that, we should be allies and stand together in the face of adversity, as if we just bicker with each other all the time, the evil Russian Chinese alliance will conquer the world, and we will be struggling against adversity. There are also internal issues plaguing Europe, like the liberal governments that are ruining their nations by importing millions upon millions of foreigners.
Just as, if not more importantly, the bonds between us are two great to get rid of, as we have similar cultures, and we have similar peoples(Mostly). The ideals that made our country great, like Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of what happened, came from the ideas of the Enlightenment in Europe. The bonds between our peoples are too great just to destroy.
So, what is the relationship we should have politically and militarily? Well, America should lead the alliance, as we are the most powerful country, but we are all pitching in, and everyone is doing their part to defend the continents. We can criticize and make fun at each other, but not to a severe extent that only 20-30% of Europeans like America. We are all able to defend our own nations, and when it is time to fight, we go together, as comrades, ready to defend our freedom.
Alright, you might think that I am just saying this to seem like “I’m a good person!”, especially after my tirade against Europeans earlier, but, no, I actually do want Europe to succeed. This is because, again, we share the same cultures, but we also share the same values, and they are the backbone of the ideals of western civilization. If we let them fall, then, not only will we lose our global hegemony, but if we lose them, we will have lost the values and cultures that create western civilization. We can never ever let this happen, which is why defending Europe is so important, from enemy powers, and the other things conflicting Europe today from within.
Now, that is something we can look at and think, why can’t we have that? However, Europe needs to be taught a lesson first. And that lesson is that it is not the job of the United States to always be going to defend ya’ll. That is your responsibility, and you will have to learn to defend yourself on your own. And that means, you will have to invest in your military, and be able to defend and assert yourselves. You can’t just slack off anymore. We will still defend Europe, because they are our friends, but the primary responsibility will be on you. It is not our job to defend a country that is not willing to defend themselves(Looking at you, Iceland), because a country that won’t defend itself, or requires other nations to do it for them, should flat out not be a country.
But how are we supposed to fix Europe in the first place? We need them to build up a military, but how are we supposed to do that? Well, this means we have to be tough on the Europeans, like a parent lecturing their child, we won’t be too harsh, but we need to be harsh enough that the Europeans will understand to never do this again, and it will benefit us all in the long run. This means that we need to somewhat withdraw from the continent, but not to the point where we flat out abandon them, and also impose tariffs on them, because they imposed tariffs on us since the end of World War 2 to regrow their economy, and kept them since, so we can impose tariffs too. Meanwhile, Europe has to learn that they shouldn’t take us for granted, and should not be so eager to yell “America sucks!”, “Yankees go home!” or other things, because they need to realize that we could leave. If you all rebuild your militaries, I wouldn’t want to leave NATO, but at this point, I don’t even like NATO that much, because all it does is force America to do all the work and never let the Europeans do anything on their own. And you need to remember, because of America, NATO is the most powerful military alliance in the whole world, who nobody would dare mess with, but if America left tomorrow, it would degrade to a weak, glorified regional alliance. A primary example of this is the 2% of the budget on military spending goals. When that was announced in 2014, only a few nations had reached that much, and some nations(Iceland) don’t have a military at all. Even after the Invasion of Ukraine, the Europeans still didn’t try, because “Well, it isn’t like NATO can enforce that, and besides, America will protect us”. However, they need to realize that one day, we won’t be there, because we see no value in it. After all, why defend people who the previous day were ranting on Twitter about how America is the worst country in the world? So, in order to enact change, we have to be tough on them, and that might include threatening to pull out. Remember, when President Trump was reelected, he promised that he would tariff the world, would try to leave NATO, and even encouraged Putin to invade countries who didn’t pay the 2% defense spending limit. The Europeans criticized this as reckless and that Trump was abandoning Europe, but I see it as completely justified, because, as much as I hate Putin, what other way is it going to convince the Europeans to expand their armies. So, when Trump took office, the nations of Europe actually started to invest in their militaries. I saw this interesting graphic a little while ago about how much European defense spending increased by showing how much one would gain from investing in a defense company, Rheinmetall, and it shows that it massively expanded after Trump retook office. Within just 6 months, all NATO nations(Except GOSH DARN ICELAND) had reached the 2% goal that they hadn’t reached in over 10 years, so, at the NATO summit, Trump expanded the goal to 5%. And, in January, when America threatened to take Greenland because Denmark wasn’t defending it enough, all of Europe expanded their militaries again. Now, it is a little worrying that it took not a threat from a country that has been actively invading its neighbors such as Ukraine, and repeatedly threatens the world with nuclear war, but a country whose president is famous for trolling to get Europe to expand their military, but I mean, hey, I guess it is a start.
However, in order to really make Europe have great militaries, we need them to understand that America is not going to be the one who is just carrying the whole team. Yes, we will be in charge of the alliance because we are the most powerful country, but we are not going to defend the world alone. We are not the world police, it is not our job. We are a team, and everyone in the team has to contribute to defend the continent, and, by extension, western civilization, and the ideas that have made our nations great;liberty, freedom, and democracy.
Meanwhile, our ally up north, Canada, should also listen, because, although there aren’t many threats to them, as there is nobody else there, and besides, who cares about Nunavut anyway, but that will soon change. This is because the Russians are racing to control the arctic, which has vital resources such as oil and NG, and also the shipping lanes that will soon melt and will be faster than the Panama Canal. Controlling this region is crucial, so, yes, the Canadians have to step up too. But this shows that every nation has to expand their militaries(Even Iceland), because it is not the job of another country, usually us to defend a country’s territory because they won’t do it themselves.
This is coming at a crucial time, as this is during the Iran War, the nations of Europe are constantly whining and complaining, to the point that they are defying the US(Looking at you, Spain), access to military and air bases. Now, you can call the war reckless, even if it isn’t, but we are not going to let countries we are required to defend to not help when we need it. We give you all you need, so at least show some thanks. This also comes when, again, only 8% of our oil comes from Arabia, while most of yours comes from there, you might as well help, as we don’t need to. We will help, of course, as we made the mess, but we don’t have to do it. So, Europe, you have an important time to learn a lesson. Either stand with your main protector, and we will do so in return, or yell at America again, the “cause of all your problems”, and find out what happens to you. You better not make the wrong decision, or else you will all find out the consequences of when Europe is alone, and will regret it for a long, long time.
This is what is at stake. Either we rebuild the greatest alliance the world has ever seen, capable of defending Europe and the world from threats of tyranny from Russia and China, while also being able to defend ourselves, or you will have to defend yourselves alone, while regretting your actions as you fight the Russians alone. We want you to pick the first option, apologize for past mistakes, help us when we need it and we will help you. We can defend the continent together, and we can fight against other potential threats. We can even help with the internal issues plaguing Europe, like the liberal governments that ruined the continent. We can make Europe great again, together. However, if you pick the second option, then your nations will have to face the enemies of the continent all alone, with a weak military and command structure, with 30 separate nations, which might not be willing to work together. A united Europe can’t work because soldiers are more likely to defend their nation than an idea; a Norwegian isn’t going to just fight and die with a Turk for a continent. So, the choice is up to you, Europeans.
And screw you Iceland!
