So, you are probably thinking that this is going to be the dumbest thing you have read all day.

Yeah, it probably is, but you got to hear me out!

On February 8, 2025, millions of Americans went to watch on their big screen TV’s the only thing more controversial than politics: Football. Now, it was the Super Bowl, the biggestsporting event in America, and it was the Kansas City Chiefs, which had won 2 Super Bowls in a row so far, and the Philadelphia Eagles, who had not won a Super Bowl since 2018. So, it was pretty obvious on who was going to win. Nether the less, the coin toss happened, and the Super Bowl began.

After 2 change hours of epic touchdowns, Kendrick dunking on Drake, Taylor Swift getting booed while Trump was cheered on, and way to many cursed ads…the Eagles won, and the Chiefs got absolutely destroyed, with a 40-24 final score. This was probably due to the Chiefs defensive line failing over and over again, leading to Eagles getting touchdown after touchdown after touchdown. All Kansas City fans turned off their TV’s with a sigh of defeat. But, what if there was something deeper going on here? What if this was part of a plan by the Kansas City Chiefs, in a high stakes, risky bet? Let me explain:

Until 2020, barley anybody had heard of the Kansas City Chiefs, and why should they? They had not been in a Super Bowl since the 1960’s, and had only won once. However, in 2017, things started to look up for the team when a young Patrick Mahomes became their quarterback. In the 2020 Superbowl, the Chiefs were given glory after winning against the already famous 49’ers. The next year, they got in the Super Bowl again, and, although they lost by a lot, they still could have won if Tampa didn’t have Tom Brady. In 2023 and 2024, the Chiefs won consecutively, and their sights were set on becoming the first team to win 3 Super Bowls in a row.

However, the Chiefs were becoming too good. With all these wins, it was almost guaranteed at this point that, if the Chiefs were in a Super Bowl, victory would be certain. It was just to easy, and football fans were getting bored of the Chiefs win after win. So, this year, people began to state that, if the Chiefs won, they wouldn’t watch the Super Bowl next year. This meant that the Chiefs were losing fans rapidly, because they were so good.

Faced with this situation, the Chiefs formulated a plan. They can’t win again, because people would stop paying attention to them, and might earn less money. So, they decided, that, they have to deliberately lose. Although they would not get their prestigious 3 in a row, they would later. However, if they lost, that would give all the football fans back some of the unpredictability of the Super Bowl, and gain back support.

However, it’s a risky gamble, as them going into the Super Bowl next year is not fully guaranteed, such as in 2022, when they did not make it in. On top of that, maybe next year, they might still lose, and end up in an even worse position. So, it is a high risk bet for high gain.

Either that, or they just got really unlucky.
