Cities across borders<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

On the southern coast of California, we come across the major American city of San Diego. San Diego has a population of 1.4 million, larger than other major cities such as San Francisco or Dallas. It is known for its expansive parks, beaches, and tourist attractions, such as Legoland, the San Diego Zoo, and SeaWorld. It also hosts several navy bases, such as Coronado, North Island, and Miramar, which used to host Top Gun. Meanwhile, it also hosts several major businesses, and is increasingly becoming a center for technologies, and it is easy to create one\u2019s own. Compared to the rest of the United States, and other cities with violent crime, the crime rate is low, although it does have problems with the drug epidemic. The GDP per capita is $100,602 in San Diego County, which is above that of the national average, and, among the top 50 richest in the USA. San Diego, although imperfect, seems to be a thriving American city. However, there is something special about San Diego. Hop on I-5 and drive south, and within 19 minutes, you will be in the city of Tijuana, the largest city in the state of Baja California, Mexico…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is an American?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

In the summer 1776, members of the Continental Congress from throughout all 13 Colonies, from Georgia to New Hampshire, met in Independence Hall in Philadelphia. This was during the American Revolution, where the American Colonies were trying to separate from the might of the British Empire. Many delegates were inspired by the ideas of the Enlightenment, which stated that, governments have to be responsible to the people of their nation or else rebellion against the said government would be justified, but, also, more importantly, all peoples are equal, and are entitled to unalienable rights, rights that can\u2019t be taken away by a ruler, such as life liberty, and pursuit of happiness…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just over 34 years ago, Soviet General Secretary Mikhal Gorbachev resigned, and the Soviet Flag was lowered from the Kremlin for the last time, to be replaced with the Tricolor White, Blue, and Red of the Russian Flag. The Soviet Union, once one of the most powerful countries in the world, was dead. The Cold War was over, Communism was defeated. All over the world, and especially in the countries that suffered under Communism, people celebrated the downfall of the most evil ideology in human history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two of the most interlinked continents in the world are Europe and America, and it is easy to see why. They are extremely financially linked, they are culturally similar, seeing most people in the American Continents are the descendants of Europeans, we are relatively close, and, in times of war, we have stood side to side to fight against tyranny, as was shown in World War 2 and the fight against Nazism, and the subsequent Cold War during the struggle against Communism…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Orban is not a dictator<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Until recently, the Prime Minister of Hungary was Viktor Orban, who had been in that position since 2010. As prime minister, he was the head of the Fidez party, which is a conservative Christian party that Orban wanted Hungary to somewhat become. He infamously built a border wall to prevent migrants from coming in, being against liberal agendas from the rest of the EU,  not supporting Ukraine, and other various activities. Thus, this made him very unpopular among the EU, and the Western elites in general, and criticized him in various ways, as far-right, a Russia puppet, and others. However, lots of people further call Orban a dictator, citing his claims that he is creating an “illiberal democracy\u201d in Hungary, his long time as prime minister, and other actions of his…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why do Americans love guns so much?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

If you are not from the United States, what are the first things you think of when you think of America? Burgers, Mcdonalds, Freedom and Democracy, George Washington yelling \u201cWHAT THE @%#! A  KILOMETER!!!!\u201d at the top of his lungs, and most of all, guns. Guns are a quintessential part of American life, to the point that there are around 170 Million more guns then people! Meanwhile, there is also a constitutional Amendment dedicated to it being a right to own guns, something unique to America. However, this is not the case in most nations, where guns are feared, and in most nations(Cough, Europe, Cough, Cough), Americans are ridiculed for their love and overobsession with guns. While some countries like Switzerland and Finland also love their guns, it isn\u2019t to this level, and for different reasons. So, why do Americans love guns so much?

How did Hitler maintain power?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

In the decade after World War 1, Germany was thrown into chaos. After the Kaiser was overthrown, various factions throughout Germany tried to gain power, such as the Communists, the Social Democrats, Spartacists, the Freikorps, the Reichswehr, while the German Republic struggled to keep power. The violence continued into the 1930s, with far-right and far-left members murdering each other. Meanwhile, the crisis was exacerbated by the Great Depression, which caused severe levels of hyperinflation. On top of that, after the harsh Treaty of Versailles, there was mass resentment in Germany, and a common drive to reverse those terms, no matter the cost. So in the 1932 German elections, when the Nazi party promised to end the chaos, fix the economy, and most importantly, retake the territory lost in 1919, and make Germany a superpower again. The people loved this, and voted Hitler into power, where he became chancellor. However, not everyone loved Hitler, and thought he was dangerous and would try to subvert German Democracy. Hitler had just gained power, now he had to keep it…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What makes a nation?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

What makes a nation? Is it geography, like in Switzerland, which despite it being ethnically diverse between Italians, French and Germans, is united due to its culture based on its  geography being surrounded by the Alps, and it\u2019s shared value to defend it. Or is it a similar culture, language and ethnicity, like in nations like Albania, Japan or Italy, which are some of the most ethnically homogeneous countries in the world, with around 98% of Albania\u2019s population being Albanian, 97% of Japan being Japanese and 91% of Italy being Italians. Or maybe it is something completely different, like in America…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where did the continents get their names from?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Amerigo Vespucci was an Italian sailor who, a decade after the discovery of a new route to India by Columbus, was sailing down the coast of Brazil, where he discovered modern day Rio De Janeiro, which he named river of January as it was New Years 1501. However, as he continued passed the future site of Christ the Redeemer, and continued looking at the Brazilian Geography and slowly started to realize that the geography of the Brazilian coast was not like that of India, and it slowly dawned on him that Columbus didn’t discover a new route to India, he discovered a brand new continent. So, when he reported his findings back to Lisbon, word spread that a new continent was discovered. However, what were they going to name it? That’s when a German Cartographer decided to name the new continent after not it’s discoverer, but the person who found out it was a new world. Thus, the name America was born…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Was the Treaty of Versailles too harsh?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

In 1919, delegates from across the world converged in Paris to the palace of Versailles, which used to host French Kings from long before, to discuss the end of World War 1. For the past 4 years, brutal fighting had happened across the world in The Great War, where the fighting was deadlocked in a brutal war of attrition. However, after the entry of the United States into the war, and the subsequent Hundred Days Offensive, the Central Powers, led by Germany, realized it was over, and surrendered. Here, the Allied Nations, led by the United States, Great Britain, France and Italy, set out to make peace, while also punishing Germany for their actions in the war….<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At some point, you probably have been distracted when you are supposed to be doing something else. Sometimes, you might get really really distracted, and forget what you were supposed to do. The worst air disaster that didn’t happen<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The video above is the view from the tower at San Francisco International Airport on the night of July 7, 2017. You can observe a Frontier Airlines taxing, passengers boarding a American airlines flight, and other insignificant stuff. However, if you pay attention to the top left corner, you will see a plane appearing to approach the taxiway, with four other planes. Towards the end, the said plane barely misses the tail of the second plane, and prevented what could have been the worst air disaster in history. The image you see before you is Abiy Ahmed, the Prime Minister of Ethiopia since 2018, winning the Nobel Peace prize in December 2019, after resolving the nations conflict with neighboring Eritrea. This moment was seen throughout the world as a sign that some of the conflicts in Africa were beginning to end, and Ethiopia was on track of becoming a prosperous nation. However, this hope would soon fade, as two civil wars would end up raging the country, the Tigray War, and the War in Amhara, both of which combined killed over 700,000 people, and with a third and forth on the horizon.
