The Russian Ukrainian War has been going on for over 3 years, and is one of the bloodiest conflicts since World War 2, with nearly 1 million killed, captured, or wounded, in World War 1 style trench warfare. Recently, the Trump administration has begun seeking negotiations to end the conflict, so I decided to try myself and make a rough peace plan.

1: Border changes
After this conflict ends, there will be major border changes. There will be a complete freeze in the front lines where they are right when the armistice is signed. Also, there will be a ten mile wide buffer zone to prevent both sides to continue attacking. Crimea will be fully incorporated into Russia as the Crimea Oblast. Meanwhile, Russian Donetsk and Luhansk will be incorporated as Donetsk and Luhansk Republics. Meanwhile, Russian Kherson, Zaporizhia, and parts of Kharkiv would join with a certain degree of autonomy. On the other hand, Ukraine would also keep the rest of Kherson, Zaporizhia, and Donetsk as autonomous regions. Meanwhile, the rest of Kharkiv oblast will be Ukraine proper.
Every 5 years in the Russian occupied territories, there will be a referendum held on whether they want to join Ukraine or stay in Russia. It will not be rigged in any way, and the voters won’t be prosecuted for picking a certain thing. The votes will be tallied by a third party, neutral nation.
2: Sea territories
The new EEZ’s will be drawn based of the UN Convention of the Law of The Sea. Ukraine and Russia will be allowed to continue exporting materials through the Black Sea, and Russia can put their Black Sea fleet in Sevastopol. Also, Russia and Ukraine have to remove the Sea Mines placed in the water during the war, to continue allowing free trade.
3: Security Guarantees
A 10 mile wide buffer zone will be established to prevent both sides to continue fighting, guarded by French, British, German, and other European troops. These would help Ukraine from being attacked by Russia immediately after.
Russia will not be allowed to ever attack Ukraine again, unless Ukraine attacked them first. If Russia did attack Ukraine, the countries in Europe can help Ukraine how they see fit, from military aid to intervention. However, Russia can’t nuke them. The United States definitely can’t join, because that would risk World War 3, as nuclear nations would be at war with each other. Ukraine cannot join NATO, in case Russia attacks Ukraine again, until 2035, with approval from both NATO and Russia.
4: Reparations
Because Russia invaded Ukraine, and caused most of the damage, they have to pay reparations to Ukraine, so it can rebuild it’s economy, and show Russia that they cannot invade countries for no reason. If they do the reparations, some sanctions will be lifted.
5: Mineral Deal
Because the United States spent billions of dollars on funding, and sending tons of weapons to Ukraine, the US will need to get that money back. So, Ukraine will allow American investors to mine in Ukraine, and get some of the profits. It is also a security guarantee, because Russia can’t attack Ukraine with Americans working there.
6: War Crimes
An international tribunal will be held for soldiers who committed War Crimes. Those convicted will be given the death sentence, setting a precedent to execute war criminals in the future, instead of stuffing them in prison. Although Putin is a dictator, the charges made by the ICC against him would be removed, because, first, he is never going to turn himself in, and second, so he can continue running the country
7: Postwar Ukraine
President Zelensky has to remove martial law, and reinstate elections in Ukraine, to determine who the people of Ukraine wanted to lead their country now. Also, Ukraine would immediately remove restrictions on the Orthodox Church, and the Russian Language. On top of that, Free Speech would be completely protected by law. Finally, Ukraine will begin allowing the refugees to start coming home from where they fled.
8: NATO
NATO will be allowed to continue existing and enforcing its rules. However, they have to be careful in not angering Russia like this time, they have to ask Russia if the country is on their borders from now on if they are about to join. For example, if Georgia wanted to join, they would need Russia’s permission. However, if Switzerland joined, they don’t need permission. Also, they have to revert back to a fully defensive alliance, as recently, they have become more offensive.
Hopefully, if this peace plan actually went into action, it would create peace and end the brutal conflict.
